Hi. I’m Dev Chengkalath. I’m a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with an extensive background in physical therapy, working in Toronto, Canada.
A question I’m often asked is “How’d you end up doing what you do?”
Well, growing up, soccer was my life.
Everything I did was geared towards becoming a better player: improving strength, speed, agility and quickness.
However, being short of stature and slight in build, I was often cut from higher level teams and told that I was too small or too weak to play at that level, skills aside.
This only made me want to train harder and play smarter to prove them wrong. I started high performance acceleration training, extra skill sessions and lifting weights intensely.
From the onset of my training, the physical and mental changes within spurred me on.
I felt powerful.
From that point, I knew I wanted to share that feeling with others. I want YOU to experience what I have experienced.
Through my years in athletics, I’ve had my ups and downs. I’ve raised my fists in glory. I’ve hung my head in sorrow. I’ve made lifelong friends and made formidable adversaries. I have failed. And I have overcome.
I’ve experienced devastating injuries: multiple rides in ambulances with full spinal precautions, broken bones, ruptured muscles, and more sprains and strains than I care to remember. I carry battle wounds and scars from many bad slide tackles, collisions with goal keepers, or other misfortunes such are sport.
I’ve recovered from many serious injuries requiring months of rehab with numerous physiotherapists, rehab specialists and trainers. I’ve spent hours relearning motor patterns, retraining movements and rebuilding strength. I’ve been forced to learn what works and what doesn’t.
I became my own best physical therapist.
These important lessons have traveled with me to the professional arena.
Originally, when I started in the fields of Human Movement and physical therapy, I thought it was all about my clients’ numbers: how much weight they lost, how much poundage they were lifting, what their body fat percentage was or how great their range of motion values were.
Boy, did I miss the boat!
The true impact of my work was seen in the heightened self-confidence and improved quality of life my clients experienced.
My biggest rewards were their stories of enhanced performance: efficient mobility, boundless energy and increased strength and power. They had abundant stamina and unrelenting endurance to face their challenges. They could now enjoy the lives and bodies they deserved.
I helped them believe in themselves again.
Using my knowledge and passion for health and fitness, I will help you overcome your own personal obstacles and experience your true potential.
